Apple Launches First ARM-Based Macs with M1 Chip

The Apple 13" MacBook Air features Apple's first chip designed specifically for Mac. The Apple M1 integrates the CPU, GPU, Neural Engine, I/O, and more into a single system on a chip (SoC). Tackle your projects with the fast 8-Core CPU and take on graphics-intensive apps and games with the 7-core GPU. Accelerate machine learning tasks with the 16-core Neural Engine. Complete with a silent, fanless design and up to 18 hours of battery life, the MacBook Air is still portable, but now a lot more powerful. It also has 16GB of unified RAM and a 256GB SSD. With over 4 million pixels, the 13.3" Retina Display features a 2560 x 1600 screen resolution and a 16:10 aspect ratio for 227 pixels per inch (ppi). The display also features up to 48 percent more color than the previous generation. Connect to the internet via Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) and use compatible wireless peripherals and accessories with Bluetooth 5.0. The two Thunderbolt 3 ports provide USB4 support and can even connect to the Apple Pro Display XDR in full 6K resolution. Apple also included studio-quality mics for clear recordings and calls. There is also Apple's latest camera ISP in the M1 chip, which enables sharper images and more details in shadows and highlights in video calls. Keep your MacBook Air secure with Secure Enclave in M1 as well as Touch ID. The backlit Magic Keyboard provides a comfortable typing experience, and the Force Touch trackpad allows for precise cursor control, pressure-sensing capabilities, and Multi-Touch gestures. Please note that this MacBook Air can only output to a single external display with up to 6K resolution at 60 Hz. This Mac comes preloaded with macOS. Updates can be downloaded for free via the Mac App Store. Please check Apple's website for upgrade eligibility.
    Apple M1 Chip
Packed with 16 billion transistors, the Apple M1 integrates the CPU, GPU, Neural Engine, I/O, and more into a single system on a chip (SoC). Built with 5nm process technology, the Apple M1 delivers the performance you need without sacrificing power efficiency. The Apple M1 features four high-performance cores, each designed to run a single task, which allows for multithreaded workloads. There are also four efficiency cores to handle lighter workloads, using only a tenth of the power while still delivering fast performance. This means the Apple M1 performs up to 3.5 times faster than the previous generation while still delivering battery life up to 15 hours of wireless web browsing and up to 18 hours of video playback.
    13.3" Retina IPS Display
With four times as many pixels as an HD display, the 13.3" Retina IPS Display provides up to 48 percent more color than the previous generation. The Retina Display has a 2560 x 1600 screen resolution and a 16:10 aspect ratio for 227 pixels per inch (ppi). The display glass goes right to the edge of the screen, making the bezels 50 percent thinner than before. Moreover, True Tone technology automatically adjusts the white balance to match the color temperature of the surrounding light.
    True Tone Technology
With True Tone technology, the display delivers a more natural viewing experience for design and editing workflows, as well as everyday tasks like browsing the web and writing email.
    Touch ID
The advanced security and convenience of Touch ID is built into the MacBook Air. Simply place your finger on the integrated Touch ID sensor and your MacBook Air unlocks. Use your fingerprint to immediately access locked documents, notes, and system settings. You can also use Apple Pay securely during checkout while online shopping. Apple MacBook Air 13.3" Late 2020 Reviews

Up to date at a relatively low cost

Software advances had outpaced my 2013 iMac. It still works fine, as does the software on it. But advances in Lightroom and Photoshop - and in some video and audio editing programs were unavailable. The M1 MacBook Air makes it all compatible and portable at an affordable cost.

I have been using my macbook air for last couple of weeks. It has been great so far, no lagging or any display issues. Only thing bothers me is that lack of USB and HDMI connectors, if I need them, I will have to carry extra dock which is the only inconvinence.

This machine is exactly what I'm looking for. I am not a power user, so the base specs are working well for me. It doesn't run hot, there's no touchscreen for the cat's ears to interfere with, the keyboard is smooth, the trackpad isn't too big. Pages et al are a great alternative to Office. I had a 2010 MBP that got me through grad school and then some-it went forever, especially after I upgraded RAM and SSD-but got distracted by a PC I thought was pretty for my next machine. NEVER AGAIN. Macs just work. The M1 Air is an exceptional value and I am glad I took the plunge.

I replace a fully functional and awesome 2008 MacBook with this Airmac. Its a great computer and fast, but the display failed at 18 months. Geez.

Premium Performance in a Small Package

I needed to upgrade my 2017 MacBook Pro and recently got into shooting and editing video. Knowing I needed more horsepower than what I had traditionally purchase-a middle of the road graphic design setup-I sprung for a top-of-the-line M1 Max build with a 13 screen. I also have a larger, 16 model as a work-issued computer, and I have to say I don't notice an exponential difference with the larger display. I usually keep my laptop plugged into an external monitor at home but like the portability a laptop offers when needed. Even if you just use the screen of the laptop as your main display, I would still recommend saving a few bucks and going with the 13. I like to keep my laptop in a padded sleeve inside of my backpack for extra protection while traveling and the extra size of the 16 gets to be unwieldy. Even without the extra protection, the smaller platform will travel better and more easily fit into most backpacks than the larger 16 model. The new M1 Max chip hasn't disappointed and screams through footage way faster than my previous machine. Thank you Apple for bringing back all the ports thus streamlining the download of footage and photos while on the go without the need for another dongle or adapter. Overall, a solid upgrade over previous models.
